Work At Home Scams – Four Tips to Spot one

Opportunities for you to work at home are available on the Internet. Unfortunately, there are also many unscrupulous persons waiting to take advantage of someone looking for work. Read these tips to help you spot a scam a mile away and minimize that risk that you will be their next victim.

Test the Contact Information

If there is no contact information, be warned. It is best to skip this so called opportunity and move on to another company. If contact information is provided, is the phone number valid? Do you reach a live person? If it does go to a recording where you are asked to leave a message, leave a mesage and see if your message is returned. Send an email to the email address and see if someone responds. If you do receive a response, does it appear to be professional?

Look For Professionalism
Look at the manner, appearance and tone of any communication. Look at the website. Is the spelling correct? How is the grammar? Are any words misused? Does the layout look amateurish. Do the images look professional? If they look sloppy and unprofessional, what does that say about other aspects of their opportunity?

Review the Terms of Service
If the terms of service are not stated, then do not consider signing up with the company. If there are terms of service, be sure to read over all terms and conditions of any work at home company in which you are interested. Do not gloss over the fine print. This will tell what you need to do to get paid, when and how you will get paid, and other rules and expectations. Ensure that there are no hidden charges in the terms of service.

Ask questions
If there is anything you are not sure about, then do not hesitate to ask. As is often said, there is no such thing as a stupid question and you need to ensure that you fully understand the offer. In fact, it would not hurt to ask a few ‘stupid’ questions deliberately. Their response will help you to assess the company with which you are dealing.

While these are not foolproof, and some scammers may still slip through these checks, these four tests eliminate a significant amount of unscrupulous persons. Carefully investigate each work at home opportunity in which you are interested. Selecting an appropriate and bona fide offer may take some time, but in the end, it will be time well spent.
